PROBLEMS  

 

 

Loose edgeing - May cause a large amount of damage over the long term. The edgings are put in place to hold the main body of the paving tightly together and reduce movement. Spreading will cause Block paving to sink, motar joints to open up causing jointing compound to loosen, tarmac and concrete will crack. Once water can invade these areas it will cause permanent damage to the sub-base. Freezing temperatures in the winter months will cause cracks and open areas to expand increasing the amount of damage.

  

Uneven levels - It is most likely that uneven levels, sunken areas and rocking of paving are caused by settlement of the sub-base or the bedding layer.

• Wrong/inadequate sub-base materials or insurfficient base.

• Incomplete compaction of the substrate layers during construction.

• Water getting down to the sub-base.
